About Preschool

Welcome to Birstall Methodist Preschool.

We know that starting Pre-School is a very important milestone in your child’s (and your) life. To ensure a positive start, you and your child will need the support and encouragement that a good pre-school can provide. You will need to be reassured that your child is in the care of appropriately qualified and experienced staff.

Learning Through Play

At the Pre-school, we comply with the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The EYFS is the stages of children development from birth to the end of their first year of school. The staff use the frame work in the EYFS to support children's learning and development.

Inclusion and Diversity

In the Pre-school we teach the children to value and respect each other and enforce this learning in our daily activities and learning experiences. We encourage families to share their cultural and religious events with us and help us to learn more about the different families in our community. We constantly ensure that our practice is fully inclusive in meeting the needs of all the children. We have regards for the DFES 'Special Educational Needs code of Practise'. One of the main principles of this policy is:- Early identification and action and a positive partnership between parents, children and pre-school. The settling has a designated member of staff who is known as the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) to help identify and work with children who may require extra support. The pre-school has a system in place for supporting children through Early Years Action or Early Years Action Plus, statutory assessments and the statement process. The SENCO will set targets by using Individual Educational Plans (IEP's) for a child and review these on a regular basis. We support the parents and child throughout the process and work closely with professionals to maintain a positive partnership.

Staying healthy is something we promote to the children on a regular basis in the session. Children are always encouraged to wash their hands regularly especially to wash their hands before and after snacks and going to the toilet. Though we encourage your child to use the toilet Independently when needed, we are more than happy to take your child to the toilet when needed and change their nappy as required.

About PlayShool

Snack Time

Our group has a 5 star Food Hygiene rating and Healthy Tots accreditation. The setting make snack time a sociable time, where the children can eat together. We run a free flow system for the first half of the session. Children are encouraged to take independence of snack by serving themselves and rinsing their plates and cups. Snack time is optional allowing children to make their own choices.
